2007-2008 Club Year

Camp E–Ninni-Hassee – We donated $1500 to provide personal hygiene items not covered by state funding for this therapeutic outdoor program, which is home to 70 teens and pre-teens who come from homes of abuse and neglect.

HOME DELIVERED MEALS - Diane Vickers leads a small army throughout the year to deliver hot meals to shut-ins.  Many times the volunteer delivering the meal will be the only visitor the shut-in will have all day.  Therefore, volunteers are often the highlight of their day -- not only for the meal, but for the smile :)

CASA – Citrus Abuse Shelter Association – $1500 will go towards the purchase of bunk beds for their new building.

HOMOSASSA LIBRARY
- We donated a total of $1000 to support projects at the Homosassa Library including “Theme Packs” for the children’s library, which will
contain books on a particular theme, as well as other items and activities based on the subject matter. Our donation will also purchase an ink-efficient color copier and support the Moms and Muffins program.  Here is a photo of one of the "Theme Packs".  The themed backpack shown at right is entitled, "Its Raining Cats and Dogs".   Each pack contains books - both fiction and non fiction, a puzzle, CD and puppet.

THE PATH – A donation of $2500 enabled the Homeless Shelter to purchase a computer lab and licensed software, which will be used to train their clients to re-enter the workforce.   Visit their website at http://www.pathofcitrus.org/index.html. Here is a photo of their new Computer Lab -

HERE'S A SUMMARY OF HOW OUR COMMITTEES CONTRIBUTE TO OUR COMMUNITY:

Hospice Tree of Remembrance - Each year our members volunteer during the holidays to sit at the Crystal River Mall to accept donatioins to Hospice.

Salvation Army Angel Tree - Members "adopt" a needy child from our area through the Salvation Army and purchase Christmas presents for that child.

    Capt Nicole Bell

Operation Cookie Drop - Marianne Deacon heads up the program that sends cookies, baked goods and other treats to our soldiers stationed overseas.

The Nursing Home Committee (Penny Jones, Edna Pirmann & Antia Turska) provides gifts, bingo parties, and entertainment to residents at Sugarmill Manor.

Residents enjoy the Sing-A-Long (2008)

Throughout the year, Peggy Davis of the We Care Committee enlisted members of The Women of Sugarmill Woods to help feed the hungry via the Food Pantry Distribution at the Homosassa Civic Center. Peggy works countless hours behind the scenes facilitating food distribution so that those below poverty level in Homosassa and Homosassa Springs will not go hungry. Your support for this worthy cause does not go unappreciated!

Past President, Judy Samuelson, acts as our liaison for the Homosassa Library.

Creative Hands - This wonderful group of women sew and craft all sorts of lovely necessities for our area charities, to include hats for Chemo patients, Quilts for Nursing Home residents, hat liners for under our troops helmets for the cold weather, and many other items.

Last, but certainly not least, Barbara Turska, chairs the Lending Closet. Many of you have benefited from her service to our organization this year. Those who have had visitors and needed anything from a portable crib or car seat to an inflatable mattress or coffee pot know how helpful this project is. Members have also made use of wheelchairs, other medical equipment and many other items through the Lending Closet.

A special thank you to all the chairwomen who work so diligently, as well as all the behind-the-scenes volunteers who give of their time and talents so generously. Our thanks also go out to all of you who support our fund-raising efforts—the proceeds of which make all of this possible.
