INTRA-CLUB ACTIVITIES

Our Book Groups under the leadership of Adelaide Keller has grown to four groups of very diverse readers. Each members select books that is of interest to the member who acts as hostess for the month. Her selection is reviewed by the group, in the relaxed setting of the member’s home. The groups meet once a month and each group has a different day and time. We hope to see many more groups form for this very enjoyable activity.

At this time, we have five different types of card groups. Cards and Conversation, lead by Mary Ann Zack and Maryann McNiff, is a very enjoyable afternoon of playing a card game with a name that totally describes the pandemonium that occurs while we chat, laugh and try to win each hand while enjoying each others company. Each group meets twice monthly at a members home.

Hands and Feet is a fast paced game similar to Canasta. The object is play with your “hand” (a set of 13 cards) until you have laid down all the cards.  You then play with your “foot” (a set of 11 cards). The object is to make “books” of pure or “clean” hands of seven cards and mixed or “dirty” hands. Each round has a specific number of “hands” and the game goes quickly with all enjoying the competition. Ann O’Brien and Sonya Coughenour are the leaders of this fast paced game. This group meets at the Elks Lodge on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 12:45 p.m.

Regular Bridge is chaired by Darrielle Wyatt and Beth Boardman at the Sugarmill Woods Country Club on Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m. This group is tailored to players who are proficient in the game.

Monday Morning Mah Jong has taken off since Joyce Rasmussen started the group four years ago. This ancient game, played by Hong Kong rules is fast paced and easy to learn. Joyce is an excellent teacher and the group enjoys a very stimulating morning with much laughter and competition. The venue for this group is the Sugarmill Woods Country Club at 9:30 a.m.

We have recently added two new card groups to our members. We now offer a Beginners Pinochle group that will start meeting on Wednesdays. This new group has 10 members and interest is increasing. Vickie Leitzinger will be conducting the game and we hope to have more information soon on the dates, time and location of the game.

Our new Beginners Bridge group is just starting to develop. It promises to add another opportunity for members to learn this skillful card game. Darrielle Wyatt will be giving instruction to this group.

With health being a great concern to our members, Donna Rayne is the gal to see about our Walking For Fun group. This group will decide on time and days to walk in the area of the Oak Village pool. This is an excellent exercise for the women who are not a gym member.
