Women of Sugarmill Woods
Board of Directors 2009-2010
Joyce Rasmussen, President moved to Sugarmill Woods with her husband Gary in 2003 after living in Hong Kong for 13 years. That surely can be called a trip and explains Joyce’s addiction to Mahjong which she teaches and plays in the Club. In Hong Kong, she was President of the American Women’s Association which had a membership of 1,800 international women. She received the annual Community Service Award from the American Chamber of Commerce for her volunteer work in Hong Kong through the American Women’s Assn. She was also invited by the HK government Director of Tourism to be a Goodwill Ambassador for the Hong Kong Tourist Board. Prior to that, Joyce served as Director of several artistic and educational groups in the Midwest. Clearly, she is no foreigner to “volunteerism” and we are fortunate to have someone with her credentials. Joyce’s daughter Gina, lives in Mumbai, India, and her son Edward and his wife Elizabeth work and reside in Seattle. 382-3466; joyceandgary8888@aol.com.
Judi Bailey, Secretary, is fairly new to Sugarmill Woods. She moved here 4 years ago from Cincinnati, Ohio. She retired from the healthcare industry, most recently in the mental health field. Judi has been a long-time volunteer including the Chamber of Commerce, Tall Stacks, Epilepsy Foundation, Summerfair Arts Council, and several other organizations. She has been involved in WSW’s fundraising activities and will continue to do so. Judi has 4 grandchildren in Ohio and enjoys visits with them each year. She enjoys being a part of the WSW, and is especially proud of all the charitable endeavors undertaken by the organization. She is an avid card player, and a member of one of the WSW book clubs.
Judith Neace, Treasurer, is still relatively new to Sugarmill Woods, having lived here for about three years. Judy and her husband Guy retired here in 2005 from Palos Park, Illinois where they lived for 42 years. She is a former teacher and librarian with more than 35 years in education. During her career, she served as treasurer for the local teacher’s union in Frankfurt, Illinois. Judy also serves as a mentor for a local high school student through Take Stock In Children., and volunteers at the Homosassa Elementary School, helping with writing skills and Reading Is Fundamental. She loves the Homosassa area and Sugarmill in particular. Judy enjoys being an active member volunteer in the Women of Sugarmill Woods. 382-2691; jgneace@embarqmail.com.
Sandy Partin, , Membeship Director, was born in Abington, Pennsylvania, but has lived in Florida since the age of 11. She worked 42 years as a legal assistant for trial lawyers, retired in West Palm Beach in October 2006, and moved to Sugarmill Woods a month later. Sandy has two sons who live in Florida, three grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren. She is a lover of animals and has two dogs and two cats. Even though her occupation, along with raising her two sons, took up the majority of her time, she always hoped to do volunteer work and now the opportunity has presented itself. Sandy enjoys the activities and friendships made in the Women of Sugarmill Woods organization. 382-2567; sandycee@yahoo.com.
Linda Swart, Fundraising Director, moved to Sugarmill Woods with her husband Bob in 2003. They were blessed with wonderful neighbors, one of whom introduced Linda to the Women of Sugarmill Woods. She was immediately impressed with the club’s mission to foster friendships within the group and to serve the community. Linda worked for Gillette in the Trade Marketing and Human Resources departments when she lived in Connecticut, and later in Training and Development at General Electric. Bob was a pilot and they owned a small plane in which many hours of sightseeing and visiting friends and family were logged. Linda and Bob have four children and five grandchildren. She enjoys antiquing, gardening and working at the local florist shop during the holidays. Linda looks forward to working with and getting to know many of our members during the next club year. 382-7293; laswart@tampabay.rr.com
Joan Reece, Program Director, was born in Bermuda, was a British subject before her family moved to the U.S. in 1947. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1954. Joan was widowed in 2001 after 54 years of marriage to her beloved Frank. She is the proud mother of 5 children, has thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Joan was very active in her church for many years, serving in various capacities in two Guilds; also a tireless volunteer in PTA, Girl Scouts, and other community organizations. She moved to Sugarmill Woods in 2004 from Toledo, Ohio, and says she “met awesome neighbors and the wonderful ladies of the Women of Sugarmill Woods.” She has a background in bookkeeping and tax accounting. She served as WSW Fundraising Director for one year and was enticed back onto the Board this year. She still enjoys Volunteering for worthwhile endeavors. 382-3754; jnreece12@tampabay.rr.com
Victoria Budd, Director Education and Scholarships, was born in Chicago and grew up in Michigan. She graduated from Western Michigan University with a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.A. in Education and taught middle and high school mathematics for over 30 years. Victoria and her husband Mel moved to Sugarmill Woods in 2004. As a member of WSW for the past four years, she has been involved in the RIF program, the “School”astic Classic Golf Tournament and the Trash & Treasure Sale. She is also a Homosassa Elementary School volunteer. As vice-president of the Friends of the Homosassa Library, she stays busy with the annual book sale at the Seafood Festival and volunteering at the library. For fun, she enjoys playing cards with 2 intra-club groups. Vicki says that being Director of Education and Scholarships for WSW is a wonderful extension of her lifelong involvement in the educational process. 382-5216; vbudd@tampabay.rr.com.
Pat O'Brien, Director Community Services, our dynamic and tireless Past President 2006-2008, started volunteering in seventh grade and has been doing it ever since. That is surely a calling! After a career as a registered nurse, Pat and her husband Dennis moved here with their two cats in 1999. They have three daughters who live in New York and New Jersey. Pat is also very involved in the local Adopt A Pet program. She states that “there is a niche for everyone who wants to get involved”. 382-5571; patanddennisob@earthlink.net
Cora Ziegler, Director of Communications, and her husband John moved to Sugarmill Woods in 2000 from Long Island, New York. Cora was active in her local civic association for many years and served as a classroom aide for several elementary special education classes. Married for 48 years, Cora and John have four children and nine grand-children. She has been a member of the WSW since 2001, having first joined the Club to enjoy its Intra-Club Activities. Cora found camaraderie and an understanding of our mission, which led to her current position on the Board. 382-3977; cz1940@aol.com
Francesca Paar, Past President, was raised on the south shore of Long Island and joined the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary after high school graduation. She was sent to the Mother House in the south of France at age 18 and spent 17 years abroad, teaching and studying in Paris, Brussels, London and Barcelona. As the convent musician, she was pianist, organist, and choir director. Francesca returned to the States and left the order a few years later. Her next career was at Credit Lyonnais on Wall St. as HR Manager. She still adores the Big Apple where she lived for many years and moved to Sugarmill Woods in 2005 with her husband Bill and their two cats. “For me, joining the Women of Sugarmill Woods has changed my life.” 382-2528; nunbutme@aol.com.
